We are not so alone
there are the birds
tweeting
and washing
their beautiful
colored feathers
in our backyard
birdbaths
we can hear echoes
of the goings on
in the world
over
beyond our fence
within
flowers grow
giving fragrance
freely
limbs reach out
offering their embrace
lizards do their pushups
in the sun
raising their heads
and nod approvingly
joyful is the world
narrow is your pain
laugh and others
will join you
in your mirth
but cry
my poor dear
friend
cry
and you must
cry alone
and
drink
of
life’s
misery
swallowing
every
drop
