my forever doggie

my doggie poem by steven james humphreys

I kissed and hugged my doggie

thousands of times

I wish I could do it

thousands more

I have memories now

and to those I hang on to

lest they slip through my fingers

I remember when I sat and typed

he would lay on my bed and keep his eye on me

as long as I was there he was happy

and so was I

and if he fell asleep and I left the room

he would wake

I would be in the kitchen fetching a snack

and he would pop his head out way down the hall

from my bedroom door and look at me

and I would tell him

‘I love you, I’m coming, I’m coming, hold on my dear boy, I will be there in a minute!’

and he would wait for me

and then jump back up

on the bed.

I will never have another

for he is

my forever doggie.
