if I would leave

if I would leave poem by steven james humphreys

if I would leave

and not say goodbye

it wasn’t as if

I hadn’t tried

because life has

a way of saying farewell

let’s pretend I live in the next room

like tossing coins in the wishing well

so, when I tap on your wall and you

dry your eyes

forget all the gloom

I have a surprise

have I not changed your world

like a gentle breeze?

for, I feel like I have always felt for you

my wish was always to please

but, nothing short of heaven

can ever change

my feelings for you

for, the day I am still

and hover above

I will say without words

‘my dearest, forever I will love’.
